Couldn't recommend Libra Huesthouse Chang Mai highly enough. 9 young Irish in mid twenties arrived here for 3 nights and they had the whole lot organised for us. We were collected at the airport and transferred to the guesthouse, which is in a great location on a quiet street but close to everything. That night we were brought in a taxi to Muy Thai boxing which is a good experience for those interested. The following morning we were given a huge breakfast before we went off on our trek. We travelled an hour before we stopped off at a class waterfall where we swam for half an hour to cool down then headed off again to the hot springs. This is a surreal place where the water flowing in the stream is close to boiling hot!! You can dip your feet in but be careful not to jump in fully. Our trek started here where we walked for around an hour with our tour guide to a village where we met with the locals and they supplied us with a lovely noodle lunch. This was followed by 3 further hours trekking through the jungle, some of the sights on this are breathtaking! After braving it through a torrential rainfall for around half an hour we arrived at our village. We stayed here overnight where we could wash ourselves and relax for a few hours with the locals. They played games with us and gave us an unreal dinner. A few of us were worried about the meals on the trip but they were top class throughout. The sleeping conditions and toilet facilities are basic but this is all part of the experience! The following morning we woke early to go in search of elephants but we could not find any, our guides advised us to head back to the village and they would bring the elephants to us. This was a standout moment for us, around an hour after we arrived back in the village the two guides arrived back with the two elephants, they had trekked over three mountains to find them and bring them to us. We got to feed the elephants and take photos with them and then bath them in the river which is something we will never forget. It was then time to leave the village, they had made us up a bamboo raft and we jumped on board and floated down the river through the jungle for an hour and a half. We arrived at another village where we had arranged to go white water rafting which was cool for all the bravehearts in the group. After this we were transferred back to Chang mai to the guesthouse. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough for anyone interested in a different experience in Thailand, the family running the guesthouse literally can't do enough to help you and the rooms are very clean and spacious and fitted with air con!! 5 stars without a doubt!
